Question by Jerry Morris: Why are most victims of child abuse, aboriginal children?

I used to be in foster care and I knew dozens of diffirent children in foster care, and almost all of them were “Indians”, I don’t like using the term but it’s shorter. Most of them were taken away from their parents, because of alcohol/drug addiction, which followed in beating up their children. There were only three people I knew in foster care who were not indians, me, my brother and a friend of mine, I will not say his name. And most of the indian kids that came. were covered in head and body lice. A lot of the children that came were right off of the reserves, I think about half or less. The reason why I knew so many foster kids was because I went to the boys and girls club, for a few months during the summer so I knew a lot of kids, there are
new kids that come in everyday.
I also moved around to diffirent foster homes, so don’t tell me that I don’t know what I am talking about, I bet none of you have been in foster care. Is it like genetically, they are more succeptable to drugs and alcohol, or something, I am not trying to be racist or anything, but seriously, I want to know. Please do not report this comment if you have never been in foster care, I know that not all cases are those of Indian kids, I for one am proof of that, but I want to know why most kids in foster care are Indians.
Thanks for your time and effort, hae a nice day.

there are several issues that contribute to the under-reporting of child abuse and neglect specifically in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These include:

fear, mistrust and loss of confidence in the police, justice system, government agencies and the media
fear that the child may be removed from the community
community silence and denial
social and cultural pressure from other members of the family or community not to report abuse or violence, and the belief that reporting is a betrayal of the culture and community
a belief in the need to protect the perpetrator because of the high number of Indigenous deaths in custody
fear of repercussions or retaliation from the perpetrator or their family
personal and cultural factors of shame, guilt and fear
lack of understanding about what child abuse and neglect is generally, and lack of understanding about what constitutes child sexual abuse specifically
language and communication barriers, lack of knowledge about legal rights and the services available, and lack of services for Aboriginal victims
and
geographical isolation (i.e., nobody to report to, no means of reporting and minimal contact with child welfare professionals
