Recovery: A Guide for Adult Children of Alcoholics

Question by Lori N: Under these circumstances how possible is there for a happy ending?

I have several questions. A couple has children in their teens. Father gains custody and wants children to have nothing to do with their mother. After several yr mom gains some contact back. Father fights it in court again..wins because mom cant afford a lawyer. Now 5 yrs later mom is financially able to go to court but hasnt had contact with the children in the 5 yr period.

Question #1 would a court system allow mom visitation? (she has had phone rights but father refuses to abide by court order) mom also is behind on child support but making payments

#2 If you were the child or have been a child who has dealt with these circumstances, would you want to reunite with your absent parent?

#3 If it were permitted for the absent parent to gain contact/visitation what would be their best approach in establishing a relationship with their child/children?

#4 Why do some parents interfere with the other parent from having a relationship with their child/children in your opinion? (this is not about a case of child abuse, sexual abuse, alcohol or drug addiction)

THANKS!
nope nothing missing..just lack of money. mother even filed paper work through the courts herself then went to her court date and the judge told her to get legal representation that she could not represent herself…and for the world to know this went on in WALKER COUNTY GEORGIA..if i find out the name of the judge i will post that also

1. She needs to contact either her lawyer or the courts and inform them of this. She needs to document each and every time she calls and is refused and what is said and what times.

#2 I just was able to get in contact with my real father. Its been nice.

#3 Slowly depending on the age of the child.

#4 because they see the child as a tool to hurt the uninvolved parent.

A two-part exploration of how and why people are so addicted to comfort—at the expense of personal growth—and how difficult and painful it is to heal. I study people from the perspective of their unresolved childhood trauma—their histories of neglect, abuse, and rejection. I also explore the consequences of this desperation for comfort, both on an individual level, a family level, and on a global level. Our addiction to comfort—involving massive exploitation of resources and massive overpopulation—is, after all, destroying our planet as we know it. More at www.iraresoul.com
